What is CBD

What is CBD:Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis sativa plant. It is one of over 100 cannabinoids that make up cannabis and just one of the over 500 compounds that have been isolated in cannabis. CBD is legal under federal regulation in the United States.

Where Does CBD Come From

As mentioned CBD is found in the cannabis sativa plant genus. It is both found in varying quantities in both the recreational marijuana strains as well as industrial hemp. CBD is found in abundance in the hemp variety. Hemp is defined as cannabis that contains less than 0.3% THC. THC is another abundant cannabinoid that is responsible for the “high” associated to cannabis. CBD on the other hand is non-psychoactive and will not make you high.

What is CBD

How is CBD extracted from Cannabis

The cannabinoid CBD is extracted using a variety of methods. It is either extracted using solvent or solvent-less extraction methods. On an industrial scale hemp is extracted using a closed loop system, using carbon-dioxide ( CO2 ) . The finally product may either be broad-spectrum or isolated. Broad-spectrum CBD extractions will also contain other cannabis compounds such as terpenes, flavonoids and other cannabinoids.

Are there medical beenfits of CBD

There certainly seems to be a lot of promise and potential when it comes to CBD. Scientists are very excited about the theraputic and medical benefits of cannabis through the thousands of studies that have been done on cannabis. Although not conclusive, or legal, there seems to be alot of medical benefits for both humans and animals when it comes to CBD.

How does CBD work in our bodies

Just like all cannabinoids CBD connects to our endocannbinoid system ( ECS ) . Our ECS comprises of both our immune and central-nervous system. The system has tiny receptors located throughout out that bind with cannabinoids like CBD. Different cannabinoids have different effects on our ECS, and CBD actually does not bind with these receptors but rather agitates them.

Our ECS is responsible for important bodily functions such as movement, pain, mood, appetite, memory, and many other functions. It is built to help the body regulate balance within our bodies. For instance in extreme stressful situations our ECS will help regulate hormones so that the experience is not as stressful, or when one is in serious pain or discomfort our ECS will try and alleviate the pain sensations by producing certain hormones or endocannabinoids. CBD is known as a phytocannabinoid as its produced by the cannabis plant using light ( phyto ) . Endocannabinoids are produced within our bodies ( endo ) and used by the body to regulate bodily functions as mentioned above.

This is the reason why CBD has so many good therapeutic and medicinal properties and should be recognized as a nutritional supplement that our bodies need.
